PSYCH 2E03 Lecture Notes - Lecture 18: Temporal Lobe, Cochlear Nucleus, Cross-Correlation
Document Summary
Psych 2e03 lecture 18 auditory perception/music perception. Solution: compare intensity and timing of incoming sound to the 2 laterally displaced ears. How do we describe the physical location of a sound: open rooms, headphones. How do we describe the physical location of a sound: azimuth, elevation. Can be positioned in 2 different ways: diotic stimulation: exactly the front or back of head (physical properties entering each ear should be the same, cause exactly centred from front or back of head. Intensity is greater at right ear, sound reaches left ear later. Iid arises for 2 reasons: 1) sound pressure decreases with distance, 2) head shadow effect. Larger sound waves more easily refract around objects. Q2: at what azimuth angle would the iid be the greatest: 90 degrees, 0 and 180 degrees there would be no difference in how sound waves wrap around the head. Really no difference at 0 and 180 degrees, no difference perceived.
