Document Summary

Psych 2e03 lecture 21 light and eye anatomy. Broadly separated into 2 components: outer and inner. Sclera: the white part of the eye: covers the entire eye, part of the cornea, arrangement of proteins causes them to appear transparent or white in different parts. Cornea: has refractive power, refracts light: one of the two refractive elements of the eye (lens being the other) Retina: lies along the back of the eye: where photoreceptors lay, important for transducing light signals into neural signals so we can interpret visual field. Lens separates 2 fluid filled compartments of eye: vitreous humour, aqueous humour. Iris gives rise to eye colour, can also change shape of pupil: can change shape of pupil by changing shape of iris. In a normal eye, light coming in from optical infinity passes through cornea, through the lens and would land on retina (normal eye)
