Document Summary

If we want it to go to long term memory, we have to rehearse. If you retrieve information from long term memory, it will go into working memory. It never runs out of capacity, we are always acquiring new memories. If you wait 30 seconds and distract them recency will suffer. The function of working memory: working memory keeps currently needed information accessible, there is a trade off between accessibility and size, there is a limited capacity. Capacity: we can learn better chinking techniques, t needs practice and uses working memory capacity, however, they are specific to the task, you cannot generalize the chunks, our strategies can make it seem that we have better strategies. Working memory active: worki(cid:374)g (cid:373)e(cid:373)ory as a(cid:374) (cid:862)a(cid:272)ti(cid:448)e store(cid:863, we cannot point to the location of working memory in the brain, consists of whatever is currently active across brain networks.
