Men want quantity, but quality is a good thing too. If commitment increases men"s reproductive success, then men should commit. Higher quality offspring: to get the quality offspring, women have forced men to commit. They have been pressured by women"s preferences and biological needs. Better quality mates: highest quality women want it all and will not give it up for someone who isn"t going to commit. On evolutionary pruning of low quality mates: most of you are good looking. Survival of offspring: make sure kid isn"t killed by a predator, can eat, and have time investment required for success. Coalition building: when you take on a long-term mate, you take on her family. Resource level and protection is increased help own survival. Two main puzzles : ability to reproduce and paternity uncertainty: ability to reproduce. Men must select, as long term mates, women who are able to have lots of healthy babies.
