Thought that sex was morally reprehensible- people should not have sex unless it was for producing a child. Created treatments to stop people from enjoying sex. Carbolic acid was placed on the clitoris. Operation performed on men- without using an anesthetic a method of treatment to prevent masturbation. Though a plain healthy bland diet would help with masturbation- 2 meals a day, no meat and simply carbs and also avoid any arousing meals. Kellogg"s view and extreme version of what we see culturally today. This caused a lot of problems for people because of the guilt they felt for having sex or masturbating and etc. Freud proposed women (who couldn"t feel nerves in arms) is so upset about masturbation and so she created a psychosomatic problem so that she will not masturbate. Wrote books- catalogue of interviews with women and men about sex. Obsession grows with sexual repression in society. Sex only recently viewed as a valued field of study.
