Lecture 8 oppositional defiant disorder & conduct disorder. Could be childhood onset under age of 5. Children diagnosed usually start off with add: have problems regulating their emotions. Mild case = present in only 1 environment: ex. home. Moderate case = present in 2 environment: ex. home and school. Repetitive, persistent pattern of behaviour that violates the basic rights of others and societal norms. Three behaviours present during the last 12 months with at least one present in the last. 6 months: aggression to people and animals. Age of onset split into 2: before age of 10, after age of 10. Dimensional approaches: aggressive behaviour, rule-breaking behaviour. Males: aggression more overt, aggression is straight up ex. punching and fighting. Intent to harm or do harm to others: ex. hitting, pushing, or threatening behaviours. Intentionally and repeatedly causing fear, distress, or harm to someone who has difficulty defending themselves. Pattern: emerges in preschool, peaks during grades 6-8.
