PSYCH 3CC3 Lecture Notes - Lecture 36: Homicide, Mock Trial, Meta-Analysis
Document Summary
Jury cases: cases below show that it may depend on the kind of crime being assessed. Loc jurors: no difference when defendant clearly at fault, or injuries less severe. *so in general, people with internal loc tend to see defendants as more guilty: just world beliefs: high vs. low. Belief that people get what is coming to them: ex: those who do bad things will eventually be punished and this is the way the world works. Gerbassi et al (1977): real / mock homicide cases: high jw, less favorable impression of defendant, recommend harsher punishment, effect stronger in women. One area where results of all different studies are actually very consistent. Compared factual vs emotional ptp with or without delay (~12 days) before trial. Effects greater with jury pool members than students. Larger effects with murder, sexual abuse, drug cases.
