A brief introduction to the social neuroscience of intergroup relations. Interdisciplinary field that combines social psychology with cognitive neuroscience. A cognitive researcher that shows faces rather than shapes. Different parts of the brain regulate different social interactions and thoughts (e. g. anterior cingulate cortex monitoring for racial bias) Social neuroscientists believe that we need to take the environment into account if we want to understand how the brain works. The ability to relate to a situation by putting yourself in the same position. Intergroup relations involve empathy (e. g. an asian does not know what it is to be black) A neuron that fires in the same way whether you watch someone do something or you are doing it yourself. E. g. imagine another person shooting a basketball. Eeg: electroencephalogram: measures electrical activity at the scalp, neurons don"t fire randomly. They can fire faster or slower to create different frequency waves.
