PSYCH 3F03 Lecture Notes - Lecture 24: Kin Recognition, Psych, Phenotype
Document Summary
Psych 3f03 lecture 24 - guest lecture part 2. B is the benefit to the recipient if it"s positive, cost if it"s negative. What are the chances the actor and recipient share the same genes: direct and indirect fitness. Very easy rule to evolve, help the guys next to you. Looks like parasites infecting human body, don"t need kin recognition. Always around relatives, kin recognition don"t matter, just be nice to everyone. Once things get mixed up, interaction with non kin, that"s where kin recognition matters. See organisms able to discriminate who"s genetic relatives. Genetic relatives should work together, get benefits (indirect) from helping each other. One circumstance when kin should not work together: sex. Inbreeding causes individuals to double up on their genes (doubling up on some genes causes some nasty effects) Cooperation should go up in every aspect with kin except for this. Outside this domain of sex, kin should want to cooperate with each other.
