Japan is comprised of four islands, and it is roughly the size of california: population of japan: about 130 million, population of tokyo: 12million, greater tokyo area: 32 million, four islands of japan: hokkaido, honshu, shikoku, kyushu. Ethnicity comprises of mostly japanese, korean, chinese, brazilian of japanese descent. Writing systems: kanji (chinese), hiragana (syllables, alphabet), katakana (sharper, foreign), Geography of japan: mostly mountains (represent division), little flat land or plains. 13% of japan is farmland, 20% of the land is flat where people can live in. 75% buddhism, 85% shinto, 1% christian, 20% new religious, 70% non-religious: tradition or culture instead of religion, religion overall is different in japan, faith/belief does not define religion in japan. Japanese religion is contextual and active (actions); may be seen as cultural rather than religious: shukyo (religion) came only about 120 years ago; mushukyo (non-religious)
