Religion and healing in america: reasons for interests in alternative medical practices and models, pharmaceuticals; instant fix, spirit healing; longer process, historically multicultural history (of oppression) Distrust of the new by poorer, less educated: 20th century social movements. Chronic illness and life expectancy: who"s healing whom. Sites of healing: religious institutions, holy places, homes, streets, religious clinic. Social structures and systems that, by their very nature, have perpetrated and perpetuated unequal access to resources and justice for different groups: non white, non-christian bodies constructed as the other and often considered less valuable.
