Turks set on different courses from other muslims. 1923 turkey declared a republic - ataturk was president. Imposed constitution which placed all powers in president of country. 3 fold changes : modernization - a modern. Started on: 22/01/2015 20:22:00: secular - separation of religion and state, turkification - to make turkish more turkish. 1924 - sharia was to be abolished, new civil codes to be introduced. Sharia" abandoned for swiss code - sharia" void in public life. Yet not uniformly accepted - turks bore costs of caliphate, authority is not recognized. Questioned the idea of whether caliphate was divinely ordained.
