Freud said the mind is structured by layers. Through talk therapy, we can become aware of the deeper meaning things have for us in our lives. The freudian human is a person who isn"t control of themselves - the unconscious controls us. Psychoanalysis says that symptoms are a clue to a person"s individual truth and they aren"t meant to be fixed or cured. Freud believed that human sexuality is fundamentally disturbed. To him, sexuality was any practice that involved libido. Young children experience intense sexual feelings, but not in an adult form. Aspects of an adult may be looked at as perverse, but it"s really just part of ordinary childhood. Perversion is something with which someone is born, and if all goes well during social development, it becomes contained through h socialization, which results in a form of sexuality that is more normative. Freud says that normal and abnormal traits are present in anyone.
