SOCSCI 2HR3 Lecture Notes - Lecture 4: Culture Shock
Document Summary
Recruitment: is the generation of an applicant pool for a position or job in order to pro- vide the required number of candidates for a subsequent selection or promotion program. The image or impression of an organization as an employer based on the benefits of being employed by the organization. Define the target audience, where to find them and what they want from an em- ployer. People may apply for a job simply because of the brand or culture of a company. Decreased culture shock; already exposed to the environment/culture. Insiders may be more committed to company goals and less likely to leave. No new blood is brought in which can prevent creative solutions/fresh ideas and perspectives. Poor morale (possible turnover) of employees not promoted. Demotivating to interview all candidates if one is already preferred. Availability of a larger, more diverse applicant pool, which can assist in meeting employment equity goals and timetables.
