Trying to understand self: three general perspectives: pioneering perspective: william james theory. All these values are in us (me part of you). And how does it present itself (you become the owner). I tells you what is important in these categories. This is what gives us our individuality. Looking at a process of defining yourself to become that unique human being. William james said: how you prioritize of the me with the i identifies you and who you are. This is the unique self and that"s why we are all different: mead"s perspective (second perspective of self-esteem) But we also take the opinions of significant others (like parents and friends-the me). We start off with a line of action. Secondary others are the outer and may be significant others. Emergency of self via a line of action. Disparity= difference between individuals view of self vs. the ideal self (what you aspire to the anticipated identity).
