Women & Family – Jan 23 (Continuation) The Cinderella Complex ­ “Courageously Vulnerable” ­ Begins to address the stereotypes about how we’re socialized  ­ They tell us that in western society, women involuntarily were relegated into a position of social,  physical, psychological and economic dependence  ­ Women have repressed attitudes and fears that keep them in a ‘half’ life ­ Spring free – to redefine themselves, refine themselves, & to see what it is that they might want  beyond ­ For women, it’s easier to meet external challenges and to facilitate others to rise above it, but when it  comes to we ourselves looking inside ourselves, it is quite difficult and scary ­ It has not been tradition for women to take the bold step, but it is part of our culture today Downshifting ­ He’s the boss and I’m the handmaiden and not as important ­ We see that we are prone to the “good girl” syndrome and we want everyone to like us and to be  pleasing so we play it safe and keep it restricted so that the partnership we engage in might work ­ By controlling the balance (of the man being big and woman being small) the woman can keep them  both merged and happy  How did we get this way? ­ “The lie in the promise” ­ The way we were raised told us who we
