There aren’t enough choices in the authoritarian situation to precipitate despair
– parents or someone else is making the decisions – obedience is valued more

tales i.e. the wicked step mother and modern novels.

mothers are depicted as regressive and dependent.
Distant mothers are scorned, but mothers who are too close are accused of
smothering and overprotecting.

Today adults need to keep educating themselves and to keep learning.
If you don’t have a meaningful relationship in terms of speaking to someone about
something that is important to you, it makes life difficult that you have to go
through things alone
Do you have a mother to talk to? Is she liberal?
Mothers need to modernize

wonders if she has done the right thing to socialize her in this way
Pg 106 confusing parenting with abuse – understanding the child all the way to juvenile
court or failure
Parents need to be liberal, yet strict at the same time
