01/13/2012 Socsci 2R03­ Lecture 5­ Jan 13, 2012­ Continuation of chapter 1 The cementing of roles ­ men were to be understood to be the family breadwinners ­ women and children were understood to be dependents ­if you were a woman that was working; it didn’t say good things about you ­ women were considered emotional, sensitive, irrational, and physically weak ­ working farming woman, and manager farming woman, was becoming a dying image ­the image of a woman was becoming equivalent to an image of a doll ­ Image ­ image of women was becoming propounded  ­ girls were educated to believe that this was their nature, and that they were delicate and frail ­ children were brought up and educated to believe the nature of women ­ if you went against the roles of women and men , you were changed by the society, and put back  into the place you were supposed to be ­ when a woman became a worker, they were no longer
