Plan for complex work that requires a lot of people. To celebrate small or large milestones in the long road to social change. A lot of people in social media organizing see how problems are global rather than being felt just by individuals or groups. Others feel that social media is lazy and diminishes actual engagement. Virtue signaling we pretend that we are more virtuous and engaged than we really are. Facebook events will have huge attendance lists with very few people actually showing up. People need to physically show up and commit. The recovering our stories collective came together to think through and organize around the phenomenon of person stories being used in seriously problematic ways. We often want to use stories to build empathy and understand the group we are working with but these stories can become exploited without gain.
