Gender plays a role on your health. The feminist paradigm suggests that health and illness can be understood as gendered". There are gender diferences in how we experience health & illness and in health & illness behaviour. These gendered diferences are not only a result of biology but also due to each person"s social experience. The genders difer in major causes of death. Women are diagnosed as sufering from more ill health than men. Women make more frequent use of formal health care than men. There are gender diferences in the social determinants of health. Women live approx 4 years longer than men. Life expectancy = measure of populaion health status. Health-adjusted life expectancy or disability-free expectancy = beter. But women sill outlive men and gap is narrowing. The diference in life expectancy is related to gender diferences in role behaviours ideniied as major causes of death. Young women"s smoking rates are now higher than young men"s smoking rates.
