Sociological imagination take persons life and struggles (the micro) and link to social structure/macro and history (ex. Critique of parsons, and an alternative way to doing sociological theory (sociological imagination) it was a vision on what sociology should do. Mills said goal for sociology is to connect people"s biographies (their lives) and show how people"s lives connect to history and social structure. You should do this on issues that really matter. Not so much to build a general theory, but to examine and address social problems. The tensions btween political & public engagement & scholarship: public/hero for sociology. On politics - to change the world. He brought theory into this new left. The science question in sociology: a craft - in between. Mills thought he wanted to look at the bigger picture. Sociology should be historical it changes over time and he wants to focus on happened all over the world; protests on campus, freedom of speech, civil rights activists.
