As people are going out of north america for jobs and manufacturing : Decline in corporate taxes (keep companies here, offer lower taxes implications for everyone else, leads to government debt) Primary labor market: good jobs", higher salaries, job security, pensions, labor market shelters (describing shelter from harsh reality other people in other jobs) Secondary labor market: bad jobs (job ghettos), lower levels of education, low wages, no job security, no pension/benefits, non-unionized. Women, newcomers, visible minorities overrepresented in secondary labor market: deindustrialization and non-standard employment. Non-standard: part-time work, temporary, seasonal, contract, self employment, night shifts. Involuntary non-standard employment (increasing, people much prefer something else but no choice) Women, people of colour, immigrants, young and older workers over represented in non- standard employment: characteristics of bad vs. good jobs: Physical environment of work place (workers are subject to injury, health hazards, office or noisy) Intrinsic rewards (autonomy) feeling fulfilled by job, lots of people have managers watching every move.
