Winter 2016: across ime & place, women"s posiion in society. Structured by how their bodies/minds are deined and understood. Undermined b/c bodies/minds have been deined as other, deviant & inferior relaive to men"s. Assumpions about women"s nature has resulted in their 2nd class ciizen status. Based on assumpions about women"s bodies as weak/strong, reproducive funcion, etc. Male body is the norm, the female body is a lesser version of the male body. Aitudes about the nature of women has resulted in a second-class status: women"s bodies typiied as: Erracic, volaile, unstable, dangerous (because of giving birth, because of menstruaion fear of this: women"s uterus" are seen as causing mental illness. In the creaion and maintenance of inequitable power relaionships between men and women. Children unil recently were also seen as property. Inherently diferent from men"s bodies were more dissimilar than they were similar (about muscle mass, strength, hormones, etc. ) Naturally defecive and hazardous (menstruaion can poison/pollute others)
