Document Summary

Karl marx (19th century scholar), was influential in the development of ideological theory by later sociologists by providing multiple concepts to either accept or reject. Max weber (19th century to early 20th century academic), was one of the many sociologists who grew his theories in relation to marx. Both aforementioned sociologists discussed concepts including their beliefs on classes, class stratification, class-consciousness, bureaucracy, and socialism. This section of this paper will compare and contrast these ideas. Marx specifically focused on three main classes: proletariat, petty bourgeoisie, and the bourgeoisie, with emphasis on the first and last. The proletariats are [w]orkers who sell their labour and do not own their own means of production and dependent on those who pay their wages (55). Bourgeoisie, or capitalists, own the means of production, and profit off capital; Money that produces more money which is used for monetary gain, rather than being used for human needs (56).
