Born in 1864, his father was trained in law and he wanted weber to follow in his foot steps. He also mistreated his wife, physically abused his wife. Enrolled in law at university of heidelberg in 1882, only attended their for a year, and then transferred to u of berlin at the start of second year. Then went on to complete a phd in law in 1889. Changed from a practical to theory and went on an academic career. Became a lecturer at the u of berlin in 1891. Later on his interests started to shift to what would become his life ong interests (from law to economics/history/sociology) Continued to become a university of economics at the u of. Became chair of economics of u of heidelberg in 1896.
