Family lived in a lot of poverty: health, was in poor health from the time he was born, born with a malformation in his spine, as a result of this malformation when he grew up he became a hunch back, he also suffered from internal disorders; problems with his organs, he came close to death as a child, later in life they caused problems as well, education, had to leave school to earn money. 1911 won a scholarship for poor students to study at the university of turin: he had little money for housing, and food, he was often malnourished, by the time he was in his third year of university he had become ill and could not continue his studies, during his three years there he became familiar with radical political ideas because a number of his professors had links to the socialist movement and in addition he was learning about the ideas of karl marx, political activity.
