State sovereignty deinition: the right of nation states to rule over their citizens. The european union has undermined the sovereignty of its member nation states by creating rules, laws and regulations which the member states must follow. The continuing importance of nation states: nation states retain a great deal of their autonomy and sovereignty. There are many diferences between the policies pursued by diferent nation states so they retain autonomy. For sovereignty, nation states rule over their own citizens through law and the use of force.
