not that important
- Sharia was important

Saudi Arabia; claimed to have met the king of Saudi Arabia, in Mecca given the name Ali; he
stopped by England here he met the Queen; this happened around 1913; made Noble by the
Queen and was given a title of being a Prophet of God within the black community; he had his
own “Koran”; only 48 suras (54 pages); he brought together different religious teachings into his
own version of the Quran
-Moorish Science Temple  this was started by Drew Ali to unite the oppressed people (the

blacks came; he tried to ally himself with the King of Morocco

- Because of the Asiatic origins, it gave them pride from their culture

heritage gave them a sense of pride
- The Moorish used the words “Negro” towards the blacks as a way to look down on the blacks
-Marcus Garvey  a black man that urged all other blacks to return to Africa (specifically in
Libera); created by those who returned from America; Drew Ali disagreed and said you don’t
need to go back, you just have to liberate yourself in going back to your heritage; many of
Garvey’s followers agreed with Drew Ali; many believed that Drew Ali was sent by Allah
(astaghz): five principles: love, truth, peace, freedom, and justice
