Loss of manufacturing jobs due to corporate restructuring and downsizing. Decline in the welfare state and rise of neo-liberal economic policy. Major government cutbacks (increased income inequality, increased child poverty, health care. Increased income inequality (gap between rich and poor widening) Health care system suffering (long waiting lists, shortage of hospital beds) More strict eligibility criteria to receive government assistance. Increase in contract, part-time, non-standard and self employment. New economy: knowledge based economy, a lot more competition. Employers are asking for more than an undergraduate degree. Women/people of color= hiring is done more on educational rather than race so its good. Economic reconstruction loss of manufacturing jobs, cuts in the government spending. Better service sector jobs: are going to be found in urban settings than rural settings. Bad service sector jobs: are going to be found in rural settings.
