How macro economic changes and neo-liberal economic policy impact family life. Expanding service sector, female labour force paricipaion. Speciically, they are connected to the increasing economic and poliical interconnectedness of naions, the growth of mulinaional corporaions, and more lexible internal trading agreements. Men"s wages through the period of the 60s to today were declining or remaining stagnant. Luxton notes that the average earnings of men over 35 years have remained relaively unchanged while younger men"s earnings have declined. Between 1991-1995 average family incomes in canada declined. The macro and global economic changes led to changes in state family policy. In the last several decades in canada, the us, and other industrialized countries we have seen a poliical embracing of neo- liberal economic policy. Neo-liberal economic policy advocates for less government intervenion into the free market. It also advocates for less social spending on health care services and other kinds of services that impact families.
