Women remained at home where they had to reorganize themselves as well, and started to get involved in production process (ie. rosy the rivetor) Still a lot of control over women"s sexuality at this time and want to keep women chaste. Lesbian and gay communities grew in new york, san francisco, miami, la. Not because people were trying to create sexual subcultures, but because there was a reshuffle of men and women"s sexualities that moved large numbers of people of the same age in residents together. New opportunities to explore feelings, meet partrners that felt the same way, and build small subcultures that grew over time. Ww2 was profoundly important for the lesbian and gay community growth in large urban centers. Lesbian and gay subcultures were not new to ny, they existed before ww1.
