Even those in military have tendency to not act aggressively. Historians say: rate of hitting a target should be 100/min, more like 1-2/min. Soldiers hesitate to re or hit target. Generally want to help when we can (picture) Kitty attacked and murdered in new york city at night by industry. No one came to help her, salient left scene then came back and killed her. People saw or heard something, but no one came to help. Aggression is any behaviour intended to harm another person that the target person wants to avoid. (*intention is important) Heart surgery is not aggression (trying to help, did not intend to help) Altruism is helping that is intended to provide aid to someone else without expectation of any reward. (*no expectation is important) The good feeling that may result is the reward. Freud: we have an internal innate urge to destroy (desire for destruction) E. wilson: applies darwinian ideas to animal/human behaviour (physical characteristics)
