Socialization the ways in which individuals learn and re-create skills, knowledge, values, motives and roles appropriate to their positions in a group or society the process by which we are taught" society"s values, norms and values. Four components of socialization: an agent, a learning process, a target, an outcome. Developmental perspective: emphasis on nature, development of social behaviours, physical and neurological, i. e. : toilet training, as a kid gets older they come to understand the cues of when they have to go to the bathroom. Interpretative perspective: socialization occurs primarily through social interaction, cultural routines, children as active agents, draws on symbolic interactionism, emphasis on nurture, interaction itself is the primary focus. Impact of social structure: socialization influenced and shaped by social structure, socialization is a product of group life, we learn what to expect of others and what others can expect of us.
