Identities arise through interactional encounters and are subject to confirmation by other social actors. Group process theory: develop our sense of self in social environments through interaction and language, we learn about ourselves through interaction with others, learn about race, gender and ethnicity this way as well. Symbolic interactionism (si: those who researched childhood are interested in it as both a culture and of itself and its role in the social constriction of society . Understanding ethnicity: an nsc approach: ethnic marker , self-descriptions and defining/constructing others, renegotiating, acceptance or rejection of racial ascriptions.
