Children are the greatest natural resource (overlooked and neglected) More canadians are declining to take the emotional risk of marriage. Introduction of single parent families in 1966 when divorce laws were changing. Canada is dying families are becoming smaller and smaller (falling below the replacement rate), immigration (traditional backgrounds with larger families helped to balance out the numbers) Runaway children (60,000-100,000/year) running away from family situations not running to the streets. Canada used to be the #1 place to live and is steadily decreasing (due to the treatment of natives and child poverty) We can not just look at children, but them in the context of family to get a holistic view. Family no longer delivers emotional stability, more vulnerable and fragile society. As an advance industrial society we should be able to provide emotional stability and ensure from birth, early care and an ongoing socialization to become confident and healthy individuals.
