Teddy roosevelt- refused to shoot a bear because it was across state boundaries. Endorsed, people bought the bear to promote conservation, and it became something that people then took home and their children picked them up and liked them. Teddy bear eventually lost connection to roosevelt. This was an item that could be sold, something not a rational choice but something that represented an emotional choice. Share in the world that he creates and puts up on the screen (mickey mouse, snow white etc. ) 1938 first full length movie - snow white. Hint that children could be an avid audience that could be mesmerized by a product. A very popular thing that children loved- going to the theatre to see this creation on screen. By 1960 80% of homes had a tv and spent 2 leisure hours per day watching it. Cultural shift in society (movie theatre to small screen with individual families) Children were still not seen as consumers.
