They would not be stereotypes if they were not at least partially true. Propagate a way of thinking that says you are not you. You are a type: problematic because they perpetuate a group type of thinking, saying you"re not really you as a female/ethnic person you are a type , a person of the race or gender you belong to. At their most accurate they are trivial bits of data, that are thought to mean more then they do. We think of these things as mostly trivial bits of recognized info not a great meaning, not a lot of weight in those differences like adams apple. Stereotypes are also trivial bits that we give more weight to. Gives us important things about those people. Things we think say something about those groups. Stereotypes encourage us to believe not all of them are like this but many are".
