Anti oppressive practice
o Opposes oppression through our work
o So why not teach practice rather than perspectives
There is no formula
You need to find the oppression in each situation and help
o Opresession does not affect everyone, it is when some people are pushed down (their
position in relation to others)
o Political binaries
Left synonymous with anti-oppression
Right synonymous with oppression
Through our work
o Help the persons cope with their oppression
o Attempt to modify/reform the system so that oppressed persons can better fit into it
o Contribute to a total transformation of the society
If you think one is ultimate way, has to do with the way you are thinking
All three are important

o Who has learnt to think yet?
I just learn what the professors say then I give it back to them for work-to-word
edactly the way they want to

o Our understanding of the world is shaped by our own perspective /experiences
o People have different realities based on their experiences
Paradigm almost a worldview
o Everything we believe may not fit into one paradigm

Thought one thing and tried to figure out everything using that theary, but then
that changed
Conventional thinking all social work problems fit into one paradigm
o Prof disagree, depending on the issues there can be different paradigms different
results
