Striving toward cultural safety in the context of groups. Review and connect about what cultural safety is and how to use this in a group practice. Developed from a critical examination of nursing practices with respect to healthcare for maori people ramsden, 2002. Ramsden was a maori nurse and came up with this practice. Cultural competence" was continually letting her community down. Cultural safety" resulted in a positive shift in our work. Concept that came from a different discipline and trickled into our own. Both working alongside service users with cultural diversity. Cultural safety" encouraged a focus on a critical analysis. Focused less on benefits for cross-cultural awareness/sensitivity, and more on risks associated with their absence. Shift away from cultural understanding and knowledge of the worker and onto the power inherent in their professional positions (ramsden, 2002) The problem with cultural competence the knowledge of success resides in the professional (were trained to work with diverse people)
