The myth of realism and the languages of performance continued: Realism is an art style which attempts to represent a subject matter truthfully, without artificiality. Realism though, in fact, cannot exist, and is an illusion: All things are subject to interpretation, and so it is. Second, reality as we understand it is actually a construction. For example, literally, an impossible to represent a subject matter to it"s full honesty apple from real life is based on 500 years of biological engineering. But also, the symbolic meaning of an apple is based on religious understandings from centuries of changing cultures. Actors on stage are pretending, but that is real. As well, the audience watching what is happening in real life. However when watching art of realism, imagination is at work, and everything is constantly being filtered through our own opinions and past experiences to gain a new understanding.
