THTRFLM 2T03 Lecture Notes - Lecture 1: David Raksin, Gustav Mahler, Sound Film
Document Summary
He"ll confirm the cut-off for the next test on wednesday"s class. (test not cumulative but final is of course but it will focus more heavily on the new material) On wednesday, lecture begins at 7pm instead of 6. He has the classic hollywood film score slide up again. In many ways, it"s a classic era score, many of the features robin hood had. He thought it might be a good idea to look at these features before the movie. Quite a lot of music in this film. One of the principle themes is played during the opening credit, the marseillaise, the national anthem of france. The very first loud music you hear is this dissonant, vaguely foreign sound. Kind of north african sound as we see the words casablanca on the scene associating an exotic location for the film. In the film, this city is a place where peeps come to get out of europe due to the war.
