For example, doubling the distance between two objects weakens the force of gravity by a factor of 2^2, or 4. Ellipses are not the only possible orbital paths. Bound orbits are orbits in which over and over again; e. g circles and ellipses. Unbound orbits are paths that bring an object close to another object just once eg; parabolas, hyperboles. The centre of mass is the point at which the two objects. Orbital characteristics tell us the masses of distant objects.
