Document Summary

Parent cell splits into 2 more daughter cells. Different reasons depending in whether you are a unicellular or multicellular organism. Asexual reproduction: dividing bacteria (binary fission, cell division ex. Passing on a complete set of genetic information an materials necessary to survive (e. g organelles) Interphase: cell cycle begins, g1 phase (1st cell growth) start with one cell- growth and cell differentiation, s phase (2nd copy of dna is made in synthesis; chromosomes are duplicated, g2 phase ( 2nd cell growth) Mitosis/ karyokinesis (cell division: prophase, metaphase, anaphase, telophase (cytokinesis) Eukaryotes: cells/organisms which have specialized working parts celled organelles. Examples of organelles include: nucleus, mitochondria, endoplasmic reticulum, etc. organelles are membranes. Prokaryotes: more primitive/simple cells; no membrane bound organelles. A normal cell will just have a nucleoid region that just swims in the membrane of the cell; doesn"t have its own membrane; just swims in the soup of the cell.
