Proteins with a sorting signal are delivered via one of three ways: gated transport, transmembrane transport. These complexes act as selective gates that actively transport large molecules and particles and permit diffusion of small molecules: transmembrane transport. Membrane proteins called protein translocators transport specific proteins across a membrane into another compartment: vesicular transport. Transport vesicles carry proteins from one compartment into another compartment. The nuclear lamina consists of intermediate filaments composed of proteins subunits called nuclear lamins. It gives shape and stability to the nuclear envelope. It also forms structural links between the nuclear envelope and chromatin. Each nuclear pore contains a nuclear pore complex (npc) composed of many types of proteins called nuceloporins (or npc proteins) Srp receptor recognises the soluble signal recognition particle.
