Not that words sound the same but rather similar movements are required to articulate. Deaf individuals: sign-based similarity effect: more difficult to maintain signs with similar hand movements, word length effect. More difficult to recall a series of long signs than a series of short signs. Visuospatial sketch pad: brooks (1968, memorize sentence and then mentally consider each word, response is either. Phonological: say yes if it is a noun and no if it is not. Phonological: say out if it is an exterior corner and in if it is an interior corner.
