Document Summary

Psyc 2283 lecture 11 skinner: behavioural analysis (part 2) Conditioned and generalized reinforcers: unconditioned reinforcers: stimuli that are by their nature satisfying. Also called primary reinforcers: conditioned reinforcers: environmental stimuli that are not by nature satisfying but become so because they are associated with such unlearned or primary reinforcers. Also called secondary reinforcers: generalized reinforcers: associated with more than one primary reinforce. Ratio schedules of reinforcement (occurs only after certain number of responses made) Fixed-ratio specific, stable number of responses. Interval schedules of reinforcement (occurs only after certain length of time has passed) Fixed-interval specific, stable time period = consistent & predictable. Variable-interval length of time between reinforcement changes. Behaviour is reinforced only some of the time. Tendency of a previously acquired response to become progressively weakened upon nonreinforcement. Operant extinction occurs when an experimenter systemically withholds reinforcement. Control of human behaviour: social control. Occurs through all forms of reinforcement and punishment; does not need to be conscious.
