Ethnography study two-year phase of project: live in the vicinity of the people you are studying. Rushing at experience anxious about getting kids a head in life. Children enrolled in nursery school at age two. Interaction is regular but world outside the neighborhood receives more attention. People may live in one neighborhood and work in another one. Come together in solidarity which is good but city life has its pressures and competitions than rural life. Not a smiley face theory, it"s a good/bad theory. Political economy: power (especially social class power being neglected, role of political parties and governments. Community studies model too focused on micro level (face to face action) The political economy perspective: views urbanization as the result of the actions of those with political or economic power. Social class (on a macro factor is key: re: four points on page 55 textbook, 4) cities exist in a hierarchical global economy.
