Had sex problems with his wife which began his interest in sexology when he fond there was no research on it. 1938 began to teach marriage course open to grad students or married students took sex histories of his students, other professors and staff o immediately noticed a difference in socio economic level. Janitorial staff always went directly to intercourse. Formed the kinsey institute o eventually received funding to study human sexual behaviour. Interviewed 18 000 adults asking 300-500 questions (9 million pieces of info) All responses written in code (only understood by kinsey and his working grad students) using numbers and symbols to keep identities anonymous. Interviewer would adjust his language saying either coitus, intercourse , sex depending on the educational level of the respondent.
