Who is/What are Youth?  the UN defines "youth" as being between 15-24 years old o there are different definitions by member states (ie. in the African Youth Charter, the age range is between 15 and 35) o late boundaries in the definition of youth may be due to delays in adulthood because of the economy, marriage and education Childhood  an idealized childhood of innocence and purity is borne out of anti-child labour laws during the Industrial Revolution which sought to protect children from dangerous working conditions and responsibility reserved for adults  children are unlikely to interact with adults other than those in their intimate social circle such as teachers and parents  childlike youth are seen to be a product of "helicopter parenting"  the phenomenon of medicalization (the expansion of the domain of medical jurisdiction into the lives of individuals
