Feminist folklorists have contributed significantly to several areas of contemporary folkloristic thought. Five imp areas: feminist coding; feminist critique of folkloristic theory and practice; analyses of female representations in folklore texts; re-evaluation of collectors; & analyses of female traditions. Feminist folklorists have built on poststructuralist theories to identify imp underlying subtexts in folklore. Complicit coding when a code has been collectively determined ahead of time & therefore can be adopted by an entire community (password/code name) Explicit coding is apparent to even those who cannot decipher it. Example of a nineteenth century diarist who invented a code to write about her lesbian relationships. Anyone reading the diary would know coding had occurred even if they could not figure out what it meant. Radner and lanser were most interested in forms of implicit coding that takes places in situations when a woman is not safe to express herself openly.
